Sam loves beauty and capturing a timeless moment of inspiration is what drives him to create paintings that are a part of who he is!  His fascination with art comes from the constant urge to explore and experience the wonders of nature and then recreate that on canvas for others to enjoy. Whether it is capturing the delight of a child examining a turtle or the brilliant hues of a rainbow after a thunderstorm over the badlands, Sam's goal is to celebrate what is good, true, and beautiful and that inspires and gives the viewer a sense of delight and awe.

Sam pursued art even as a small child and especially loved painting wildlife. As he grew in years and found that his love for painting grew, he was led to the prestigious art school The Atelier in Minneapolis, MN and his horizons were expanded from primarily wildlife to landscapes, still life, portraiture, and the human figure. This school, dedicated to teaching the techniques of the Masters, gave Sam the ability to paint a three-dimensional subject onto a two-dimensional canvas. It also challenged Sam in his use of color, brush strokes, light, and composition.

While attending The Atelier, Sam also attended a seminary where he received a Bachelor of Divinity and was ordained as a minister. After his studies at art school and seminary in Minneapolis, MN, Sam moved back to his hometown in Bismarck ND and became a Youth Pastor at Charity Lutheran Church. He found that doing youth ministry while continuing to pursue excellence in art made a perfect combination and he became well known in the community for painting beautiful landscapes and wildlife while also caring for young people.

Nine years later Sam transitioned to become an Associate Pastor and then recently accepted a call to be the Lead Pastor at Riverstone Church. Sam and his lovely wife Sarah are celebrating nearly 20 years together and have been blessed with four amazing children, Gabe, Cassia, Micah, and Caleb. These relationships and others have inspired Sam with the goodness and beauty of life and continually encourage him in creating masterpieces that reflect the wonder of creation.
