Chickasaw leader George Colbert operated a ferry across the Tennessee River and can be seen here negotiating a price for ferrying General Andrew Jackson and his troops after the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. In the treaty of 1801 the Chickasaw retained the rights to own and operate ferries that crossed the rivers on their lands.
